China's AnJie Law Firm has launched its second office, in Shanghai.

The 18-lawyer office, opened Wednesday, is led by three newly recruited partners. Private equity partner Cai Hang and commercial litigation partner Xia Yibin both have moved over from Grandall Law Firm. They are joined by PE specialist Gordon Zhu, who launched his own Shanghai Idea Law Firm in 2007 after spending two years at Davis Wright Tremaine's Shanghai office.

Michael Gu, AnJie’s co-founder and a senior partner, says the firm will continue hiring both partners and associates in Shanghai in order to develop a full-service offering for clients. He and other senior lawyers in Beijing will also spend time in the new office to help build up business in the antitrust, insurance, banking, mergers and acquisitions and international arbitration practices.

AnJie was founded in 2011 by a group of lawyers mostly from China's Zhong Lun Law Firm and Grandall Law Firm. The Beijing-based outfit has so far developed strong antitrust and insurance practices and is looking to grow its private equity team. To that end, the firm in August hired PE lawyer Zhang Dan from King & Capital Law Firm in Beijing.

With the addition of Shanghai office, the firm has about 100 lawyers nationwide, including 25 partners.
